The first ever clergy retreat was held last week at St. David’s in Page, Arizona. The retreat allowed clergy members from various corners of the diocese to reconnect in a space set apart for rest, reflection, and renewal. Attendees were greeted with the warmth and hospitality of the St. David’s community, including delicious meals that fueled their week.
The journey began with a stop at Best Friends Sanctuary for clergy traveling from Salt Lake City, where they received a private tour that concluded with a walk through the labyrinth—a peaceful prelude to the week ahead. Once at St. David’s, the group engaged in a variety of structured activities and time for individual reflection. Highlights included deep discussions, moments of rest, sound healing, and a morning hike paired with journaling in the natural beauty surrounding them. An afternoon volunteering at St. David’s soup kitchen offered a grounding experience, connecting their retreat to community service and emphasizing the role of compassion and outreach in their ministry.
Reflecting on the retreat, Bishop Phyllis Spiegel shared that laughter may be the most cherished memory clergy carry back with them. The week provided a space for connection and renewal, reminding each clergy member of the shared love for their communities and their dedication to their faith.
“What a week of Joyful Abundance!” Bishop Spiegel wrote online, grateful for the chance to witness firsthand the commitment, kindness, and deep spirituality of the clergy within the Diocese.
