St. Stephen’s/San Esteban West Valley Welcomes New Vicar, The Rev. Gill De Azevedo

Bishop Phyllis Spiegel and the Bishop’s Committee of St. Stephen’s/San Esteban are delighted to announce the appointment of their new vicar, The Rev. Gill De Azevedo. The Rev. De Azevedo, a devoted and longtime Episcopalian and former Utah resident, has been serving in two parishes in Michigan, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church of Kalamazoo and another in Paw Paw, within the Diocese of Western Michigan. He eagerly anticipates joining our West Valley congregation this fall.

Born and raised in Brazil, The Rev. De Azevedo is multilingual, speaking English, Spanish, and Portuguese. He brings with him a profound love of Jesus, a passion for theology and liturgy, and a commitment to multi-cultural ministry. His enthusiasm for evangelism and building a spiritual community with the resources of the Anglican tradition will enrich our congregation. The Rev. De Azevedo believes that the best thing in life is sharing the Good News and learning about others’ faith journeys.

In addition to his ministry, The Rev. De Azevedo has a deep affection for soccer and American football, supporting both the Patriots and the Michigan Wolverines. He and his wife, Tiffany, a Michigan native, will celebrate their 22nd anniversary in September. They have one son, Ian, who is 20 and was born in Snellville, Georgia. The Azevedo family enjoys spending time together, watching Star Trek, playing board games, and enjoying movies. They are excited to return to Utah to be closer to family and to see what journey the Lord has in store for them in this new chapter.

We sincerely thank The Rev. “Madre Anna” Anna B. Lange-Soto, who so graciously served over 6+ months as interim priest for the St. Stephen/San Esteban congregations. She became known for her warm and welcoming spirit, and her knack for compassionate conversation. We wish her continued success and blessings as she returns to her vital ministry in the central valley of California, where she will undoubtedly continue to make a difference in the lives of those she serves.
